nightshift
(this wip is a novel and is in the drafting and editing stage.)
starting a new job is never easy, but starting a new job working the nightshift at the near-abandoned convenience store in the middle of nowhere is even worse. doubly so when your shift manager is an unhelpful recluse, your first customer is a blob of gelatin looking to buy cigarettes, and there's a fleshy, gaping maw in the broom closet. join win as he works for minimum wage in an unsafe environment, an experience you can only begin to imagine via fiction!
characters in this project include...
win, the new hire whose previous experiences as a minimum wage employee have jaded him to the process. struggling with anger issues and reluctant to get close to others, he quickly finds his resolve to remain isolated wavering in the face of what this job has to offer.
julian, the shift manager who tends to spend his time in the backroom. getting answers out of him is like pulling teeth from bleeding gums...but it soon becomes clear he may have his reasons for that.
edith, win's other coworker who is all too happy to share her findings on the strange circumstances they're in. her prized possession is a composition book detailing regular customers from the giant slug to the heatwave to members of upper management.
alymere is one such customer. known primarily as the empty suit of armor that comes in once a week to buy a neverending supply of slushees, win soon finds there's more to them than meets the eye.
